it sounds pretty interesting, isn’t it? this is only 2 hours distance from Chiang Mai (airplane), so you’re there very quickly
the thing is that Thailand visa system is a little bit tricky and I had to leave the country and then come back in order to get another visa; among Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and the others, Malaysia was the closest and most accessible, as Romanians don’t need visas for this country.
First of all, they have lots of palm trees everywhere, similar to our Christmas trees forests; secondly their capital Kuala Lumpur it’s like an Asian copy of the New York city. All over the center part, called the golden triangle, you can see huge tours, and among them, the two twin tours, as far as I know the tallest in the world (I’m not very sure) .
these twin tours are really impressing, it’s such a shame I lacked the curiosity of climbing up there…, I was very proud to see live the place where Sean Connery played in Entrapment, a movie I liked
all in all I was not too culturally impressed; varied people, mostly Muslims, their shopping centers are crowded and everybody buys a lot…; women respecting the Muslim tradition, some of them covered entirely in black, except for the eyes, others in jeans and only with the head covered; men are not submitted to tradition, they wear either t-shirts or shirts, without any restriction; “poor” them!
anyway some things may have diminished in their moral code as well, because I saw enough of them holding hands; it was very interesting to see a woman dressed completely in black and a guy in casual clothes walking hand in hand …
well, I’ll stop here with my short Malaysian trip, I doubt I’ll repeat it soon … I’ll come back soon with some more Thai …
