Thai travel diary 4

dear readers,

the 4th part has nothing special, so that …… some of their cultural rules:

- it’s insulting for a Thai person to sit down with your legs oriented towards him/her

- you never get in a house or private room with your shoes on; also, some objects as for example the umbrellas are left at the entrance door

- sitting with your bottom on a pillow is not polite

- if you step on a book it’s considered an offence for the teacher (when attending a class etc)

- it is very rude not to answer to an “wai” (a greeting with the hands in different positions- heart, mouth, eyes, forehead)

well, I don’t know whether I told you or not but they bring you spoon and fork with every dish you order; it is interesting and very practical to use them both; I began to get used to their hot spices, maybe one day I’ll like them; anyway, on such hot days they are definitely good for digestion

very much like in our country, the master-less “pedigreed” dogs are a familiar appearance on every corner of a street; the funny thing is that, because of the heat, they are so “fresh” that they can hardly jump on you or bark at you; generally, you really have to provoke them to get a move from ....

the “good” news is that the last days it has been raining all the time, hard to walk, favorable for meditation (or simply sitting doing nothing)

I noticed today that their Buddhist monks are very funny, full of mobile phones ringing all the time, very much like our monks; I had a nice talk with one them who came from Korea for a kind of master’s degree in Buddhism; this is how I found out that in his country there are 5 languages/dialects and that they can hardly understand each other if they don’t speak the same language; now I cannot guarantee the accuracy of this information because our communication language was a kind of thai-english J

I made a couple of tests with my mini video camera; I’m a disastrous cameraman, but I’ll post some videos on the site these days.

everything is fine at the school (ITM); now I really understood completely level 4 and I will be able to apply correctly their points; at least those for headaches and backaches, they are great

I got used again to giving suggestions and advices in other foreign languages, especially English as I had forgotten the basic massage words; there are many people, many of them willing to become masters in just a few days, but it’s fine – things are moving on!

yes, and after 10 months of staying dry in our poor city with no real swimming pool, I swam again here; I’m not a professional in this, I learnt it myself and not very good, but it is very nice – with the head in the water (I have swimming glasses) and moving the arms very slowly the sensation is quite deep, I really empty my head of all the thoughts and I vaguely feel a kind of approaching to the water

that’s all for now …

Aura Soma 1

(two years ago I had a Level I course near London about Aura Soma and I was deeply impressed by ...)

The creator of this technique is Vicky Wall (1918-1991); not at all accidentally, her father was the 7th child of his family and she also was the 7th child of her family. In the Hebrew tradition there are some mystic aspects which I don’t know very well regarding the “7th child”. Her father was member of a religious group involved in studying the mystic aspects of the Bible. He was also a master of Kabbalah and Zohar.

Vicky worked as a chiropractor in London and when she reached her maturity she lost sight. Following a dream of divine inspiration, according to her, she was told the secrets of the bottles and was advised to bring them into the light. The bottles received the name Equilibrium Bottles. From the 106 bottles we have now, the first 43 were created by Vicky herself. She passed the secrets of the bottles’ creation to Mike Booth, one of her disciples meant to continue her work. He is currently the spiritual leader of this movement that traces back in England.

The bottles are fascinating and their structure is very complex. But what’s next, in a future continuation ………………………….

Thai travel diary 3

I’m ................... because of the heat here!

all in all, life’s interesting, I took part in the students’ trainings at ITM and also gave a helping hand when needed; they have enough students for this time of the year, especially that the number of the Westerners decreased considerably; I think I told you before that most of students come out of curiosity to see what the Thai massage is about ...

yesterday I went to a treatment at SPA Mantra (this belongs to the ITM, too) – I tried a combination of "Hot stones massage", that stuff with hot stones and brown rice and jasmine compresses. Their methods are interesting and the guys there really do their best to make you feel good; I hope to learn some tricks from them ...

otherwise, I’m having headaches trying to learn their language, they have five types of tones/ways of pronouncing a word and if you make a mistake in the tone, you loose the meaning of the word you intended to say; I’m lucky they are polite and they praise me for my performances, but this only after I translate into English what I wanted to say in Thai J

now I just came back from their week-end market, I bought some clothes, they are very cheap, but after the first wash they get small enough to fit a kid size; a very interesting scenery there, a mixture of food, clothes, bedclothes, ornamental objects etc; besides all these lots of singers, among them the very well-known “blind people” rolling their eyes; of course they have special rates for foreigners – bigger I mean – and they are always trying, with a smile on the face, to cheat on you a bit …

I finally remembered that I have with me a small video camera , so I’ll take it with me from now on to do some videos, to see if it is worthy

keep in touch ...

Thai travel diary 2

as I said, everything is fine…

to the honor of my arriving here, I slept for about 12 hours; there are also 4 hours difference between us, so I'm still getting used to this

the city – so noisy that it gives you headaches, pedestrian crossings here and there - meaning you orientate yourself when you want to cross, high levels of pollution

their common vehicle is the two-wheeled rattle thing – the scooter, everybody owns one...

the second important car - the three-wheeled rattle thing “tuk-tuk”, a kind of covered motorcycle used as a taxi; it moves slowly, it smokes and it is so noisy that you can hardly understand the driver, but it is cheap

in exchange, fruits are so delicious that you want more - mouth-watering and genuine, the local ones, because they also have import fruits

food – today I had chicken with pineapple and rice, the never-failing rice; I’m not too keen on their food, last year when I got home, I stopped eating rice for about half an year, but here the rice is like our potatos

I took part in some massage classes at school (ITM), my first contact with them, since last summer; I’m looking forward to what’s next

bye for now and see you in a while ...

Thai travel diary 1

well, I’m still on my way there, just had a poor pizza in the Frankfurt airport and now I’m waiting for the plane to Bangkok; there will be 10 hours sitting in that plane and afterwards another plane to Chiang Mai; so lots of fun until tomorrow evening …

will follow a couple of months in Thailand and hopefully a deeper knowledge of the art that fascinated me, Nuad Bo Rarn (Thai massage). Heat, rain, trainings, that is all the stuff …

see you again in a couple of days, after I get over the shock of the almost 40o C at the destination!

Nuad Bo Rarn

It's the traditional name for what is known as Thai Massage.

I'm passionate about this art, which is, in its essence, a true spiritual way...

So that, I'm now again in Thailand hoping that I'll go deeper with the Nuad ...

Winners versus Losers

The Winner is always a part of the answer;
The Loser is always a part of the problem.

The Winner always has a program;
The Loser always has an excuse.

The Winner says, "Let me do it for you;"
The Loser says, "That's not my job."

The Winner sees an answer for every problem;
The Loser sees a problem in every answer.

The Winner says, "It may be difficult but it's possible;"
The Loser says, "It may be possible but it's too difficult."
